PRINCE GEORGE, BC: A local man is in jail and will remain there for just over a month after being caught with stolen items…
Police say the incident began at approximately 2 pm Friday, Sept 6, when an officer noticed a man in uniform chasing another man down 2nd Ave near Ottawa Street. The man being chased was carrying a laptop bag and a tablet.
The officer exited his vehicle and directed the man to stop, however, he changed course and kept running. The officer began a chase of their own. The male suspect ditched the laptop bag and tablet and was eventually arrested nssr 2nd Ave and Scotia Street.
Further investigation found that the male suspect opened an unlocked door and removed a laptop computer and a tablet from a parked vehicle. An employee of a local business responsible for the vehicle, confronted him. The suspect fled and was spotted by the officer shortly after.
Jordy Martin Visser-Hayne, a 22 year-old Prince George resident, was remanded in custody over the weekend. He attended court on Monday and pled guilty to theft under $5000. He was sentenced to 45 days in custody followed by one year probation.
