Highway intersection to see safer, improved traffic flow…

TERRACE, BC: Work will soon start on a new roundabout to enhance safety and improve traffic flow at the intersection of Highway 16 and 37, replacing the four-way stop.

“Enhancing safety on our highways is our top priority,” said Claire Trevena, B.C. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure. “This new roundabout will keep traffic flowing more efficiently so people travelling for work or pleasure can arrive at their destinations safely.”

Highway 16 is the connector route to the Port of Prince Rupert. Highway 37 is the only corridor that links Highway 16 with Kitimat, home to the new LNG Canada facility.

The $9.3-million project, with $7.6 million through the Government of B.C. and $1.7 million through the Government of Canada, is expected to be complete in fall 2019.

“This road work will reduce the risk of collisions and connect communities, ensuring people and goods can travel safely,” said François-Philippe Champagne, federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities. “Safe and efficient transportation networks are essential to helping our businesses compete and improving Canadians’ quality of life.”

During construction, drivers should still plan for minor delays and are reminded to slow down and use caution when travelling through the work area.

There are 20 active projects presently underway in northern B.C., representing an investment of nearly $154 million.
