UPDATE 4… Severe Thunderstorm WARNING in effect for the BC Peace…

Update 4: Environment Canada has ended the Severe Thunderstorm WARNING.

Update 3: As of 6:23 pm, a storm system that was in Dawson Creek a short time ago is now headed east along Hwy 97 towards Chetwynd. DriveBC cam 27 km east of Chetwynd shows the storm system moving east. Motorists should be prepared for heavy rain and strong wind on Hwy 97.

Another storm cell has popped up just south of Fort St. John. It is moving southwest and is capable of strong wind and heavy rain. As of 6:23 pm.

A Severe Thunderstorm WARNING is now in effect….

At 5:43 p.m. PDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

An area of thunderstorms just east of BC is moving toward the Peace River district and is expected to reach the region within the next hour. These thunderstorms have the potential to produce strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
