Police seize malnourished dog; Home owner Medevac to hospital…

FORT ST. JOHN, BC: The Fort St. John RCMP want to thank the public for the report of a malnourished dog on June 15. Police seized the dog and took it to the North Peace SPCA shelter…

SPCA staff brought the 16 year-old dog to a local veterinarian office to be examined, and found the dog to be in very poor health. Medical staff considered all their findings and determined the most compassionate plan of action was for the dog to be euthanized.

Police contacted the owner and learned they had been MedEvac and hospitalized for the past 2 months. The owner entrusted their dog to the care of others on short notice while receiving medical care.

Police have since responded to a report of a mischief file at the owner’s address where a vehicle was vandalized as a result of some area residents perceived lack of care for the dog.

The RCMP request that disgruntled members of the public channel frustrations in a more constructive manner. Two wrongs don’t make a right; finding the truth and utilizing education or intervention is a better response than only knowing one angle of a story and seeking retaliation or revenge.

The RCMP warn, vigilante justice is not acceptable and, depending on the actions taken, could be prosecuted as a criminal offence.
