SMITHERS, BC: On May 23, 2019 at about 9:45 AM, the Smithers RCMP and other emergency services responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, a senior was being cared for by the Smithers Fire Department and BC Ambulance. The woman was immediately taken to the Bulkley Valley Regional Hospital and continues to receive medical care for her injuries.
There were no other injuries as a result of the collision. At this time, it appears the woman was crossing the roadway on the crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle turning off of Main street onto Highway 16.
The Smithers RCMP is continuing the investigation. Neither alcohol or drug impairment are believed to be a factor. The driver of the truck involved did remain on scene and co-operate with the investigation.
The Smithers RCMP would like to thank those witnesses for initially stopping, assisting the injured woman, and providing their observations to police. Officers are asking that any witnesses, especially any stopped at the intersection at the time of the collision, to please come forward and share any details they may have observed.
