Fire damages Stuart Nechako Manor in Vanderhoof…

VANDERHOOF, BC: A fire at a seniors building in Vanderhoof on Monday has displaced 36 residents…

Due to water damage and incoming restoration resulting from an early morning fire, Northern Health has moved residents out of three sections of Stuart Nechako Manor in Vanderhoof. No residents or staff have been harmed during or as a result of the event.

In a release on Monday, Northern Health states at approximately 1:45 AM Monday morning (April 22), Stuart Nechako Manor in Vanderhoof experienced a fire resulting in an evacuation to unaffected areas of the facility.

The Vanderhoof Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. The facility sprinkler system was activated during the fire and has caused some water damage to three sections of the facility, necessitating the transfer of clients and patients for their own comfort and convenience.

A total of 36 residents have been affected and accommodations options will be finalized with further assessment of the damage. Residents are currently being housed in St. John’s Hospital and Aspen House (an unaffected section of Stuart Nechako Manor) where they are being kept safe and comfortable while next steps are being arranged.

Restoration services are being activated. The cause of the fire is not known at this time and will be investigated.

St. John Hospital is unaffected and is open.
