Police say just after 6 PM, a southbound Dodge pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a northbound commercial transport vehicle head-on.
The driver of the Dodge, a 56 year-old resident from the Cariboo region, died on scene while the commercial driver was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Highway 97 was closed for hours while RCMP investigated the cause. The Hwy reopened during the overnight at around 3 am.
Weather and road conditions were normal at the time of the crash which occurred on a straight stretch of Hwy 97.
Police continue to investigate.
