PRINCE GEORGE, BC: One man is in custody and facing several charges following a police incident that began in Quesnel on Sunday afternoon…
Police say at around 2:30 PM, officers from Quesnel received a report of a stolen vehicle from a business parking lot. Officers located the stolen vehicle heading towards Prince George o Hwy 97 a short time later and made an attempt to put it over. The suspect fled at a high rate of speed and officers did not pursue.
Officers from Prince George were then notifed that a stolen pickup was possibly headed towards PG. The RCMP launched the Air 3 chopper and located a vehicle matching the description 30 kilometres south of Red Rock. The suspect driver fled from officers once again and was heading into PG city limits.
Just before 4:00 PM, multiple General Duty officers intercepted the vehicle near the southwest end of Massey Drive in Prince George. While attempting to evade police, a collision occurred between the stolen vehicle and a marked police car.
The driver and lone occupant was arrested without further incident. Alcohol was a factor. As a precaution, the suspect was transported to hospital to be checked by medical personnel. No police officers were injured.
The suspect was held in custody overnight and appeared in Provincial Court late today. Eric Roger JOHNSON, a 27 year-old Quesnel resident, has been charged by the BC Prosecution Service with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Impaired Driving
- Assaulting a Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Assaulting a Peace Officer
- Fail to Stop for Police (2 counts)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime (valued at $5000 or more)
