IIOBC called to Vernon following vehicle crash…

VERNON, BC: The Vernon RCMP is currently under investigation by the Independent Investigation Office of BC (IIO BC) following a vehicle crash during the overnight in Vernon…

Police say at approximately 2:44 AM, officers received information on a suspicious red Cadillac and its occupants. Approximately 1 hour later, an officer located the suspicious vehicle and attempted to stop it at 39th Ave and 27th Street. The driver did not stop and fled from police.

A few blocks later the driver crashed the car on 32 Ave into a tree near a creek bank. Officers arrived on scene and gave commands for both suspects to exit the vehicle. Both did and were arrested and taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both suspects remain in jail at this time.

The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is continuing to investigate the original complaint which the info on that has not been released..

The Independent Investigation Office of BC has been notified and will determine if there is any link between police actions and the motor vehicle collision.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police. Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact the IIO BC at 1-855-446-8477.
