Discovered: Friday, July 27, 2018

Size: 91,253.0 hectares

Status: Active
Hand ignitions will occur along Sutherland Road to William Road to secure the last part of the southern guard as safe conditions allow. This removed fuel on the inside of the fire guard is to prevent the fire from progressing further south or spotting. Northern winds yesterday caused the fire to be pushed into some unburned pockets of fuel, but activity remained within the existing perimeter apart from some movement into the Sutherland Drainage on the north side.

The growth on the northeast corner has had machine guard built around the end. However, this part of the fire continues to be active within guard lines and is visible from the surrounding areas but it is resourced and the main flank of the fire has not moved towards Fort St James, Highway 27, or Highway 16 in the last week.

Today in the north, monitoring from Roof Road to Nest Road is occurring. Crews are mopping up Nest Road to the 33 km mark. Contingency guards on the north and northeast flanks are being established. In the south, crews are mopping up along Sutherland Road to William Road from yesterday’s controlled burn and will have that line secured by end of day.

On the east flank, crews are mitigating the risk to the community of Fort St James and Highway 27. Structural protection crews, including engines, water tenders trucks and personnel will remain present in the area.

The weather anticipated to be dry with a mix of sun and clouds, from west-southwest at 20 km/hr by the afternoon with some possible gusts up to 30 km/hr. High temperatures to 22 degrees and minimum relative humidity to 25%.
