Parts of Cottonwood Island Park are closed due to flooding…

Please be advised that the City of Prince George has closed the island in Cottonwood Island Nature Park due to rising water from the Nechako River.

Staff have placed signs and barricades at locations including the Replica Bridge and the recently constructed bridge in the west end of the park. Access to the canoe launch and a small area just north of the railway bridge is also blocked.

Currently, the main closure is limited to the island in the park, but staff are continuing to monitor river levels and, if necessary, may close the rest of the park, parts of the Heritage River Trail, and other parks along the rivers.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Prince George area.

The City thanks park visitors for their patience and understanding, and encourages residents to use caution whenever walking near the rivers, particularly during periods of increased water levels.
