Police target speeders around Playgrounds and School Zones…

Released and written by: RCMP Community Policing.

PRINCE GEORGE, BC: The Prince George RCMP’s Community Policing Section has received many recent complaints about speeding vehicles, pedestrian safety concerns and parking issues at or near area schools and playgrounds.

“RCMP volunteers have been attending the areas of concern and of all the vehicles observed, 51% were observed travelling above the posted speed limit” says Mike Burt, Program Coordinator. “If you were one of those drivers, but not stopped by RCMP officers, you will be receiving a warning letter in the mail from the Community Policing Section explaining the violation(s) observed and what the penalty could have been.”

RCMP officers will continue to conduct enforcement in areas of concern. The enforcement will be complimented by volunteers providing educational enforcement.

“With nine weeks of school left, we are asking motorists to remain diligent and obey school zones, which are in effect Monday to Friday

8am to 5pm when school is in session” says Sergeant Matt Labelle, officer in charge of the Detachment’s Traffic Services Section. “Playground zones are in effect every day of the year from dawn until dusk.”

Motorists are also reminded to watch for no parking or no stopping zones, especially in and around school zones. Parking or stopping in these areas to pick up or drop off your children is unsafe and not allowed, even if it’s only for a few seconds. City of Prince George Bylaw Law Enforcement Officers patrol these areas and will continue to do so during high traffic times, like before and after school.
