PRINCE GEORGE, BC: One person is in custody and facing charges in relation to threats made on social media towards a local school yesterday.
At approximately 10:40 AM on Thursday March 29th, members of the Prince George RCMP located and arrested a youth male for Uttering Threats in relation to this investigation. The youth was transported to the Prince George RCMP Detachment where he currently remains. Investigators are confident that he acted alone.
At approximately 2:00 PM, members of the Prince George RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit with assistance from General Duty officers, executed a Criminal Code search warrant at a residence in Prince George. No firearms or evidence of a legitimate threat were located.
In conjunction with School District 57, investigators have assessed that there is no elevated risk to students attending school next week.
The youth will be released on strict conditions including not to have access to computer devices or the internet. He will attend court at a future date to answer to charges.
The Prince George RCMP take threats of this nature very seriously and will use all available resources to seek out those persons that choose to be involved in these types of acts. This behaviour is not acceptable in our community or in any other community.
Police will continue to work with School District 57 administration to ensure the safety of all children in all our schools.
