FORT ST. JAMES, BC: During the snow event the Prince George region saw a few weeks back, Fort St. James and communities west along Highway 16 had received almost 60 cm of snow in two days. During that time, an RCMP officer on patrol in Fort St. James saw a senior shoveling out her driveway and stopped to help…
On Thursday February 8, 2018, Cpl. Jeff Raffle was patrolling on Elm Street in Fort St. James and noticed the senior shoveling the driveway by hand so he stopped his police vehicle, got out and began to help shovel her driveway.
The homeowner, Beatrice Barnes was very appreciative of his efforts. A local resident, Bernice Wilkes happened to be driving by and stopped and took a photo of Cpl. Raffle, and the photo went viral.
“I drove past and saw her shoveling by hand. There was so much snow I thought she would like some help, so I turned around and asked if she had a spare shovel. She smiled and said she did. We had a nice chat while we finished clearing off her driveway. It’s something I would have done whether I was on duty or off.
I think that is one of the reasons I like living in a small town so much, the community pulls together and helps each other out,” said Corporal Jeff Raffle.
More snow is headed to the region beginning Friday.
