KELOWNA, BC: A pizza delivery driver is lucky he and others were not hurt after thwarting a vehicle theft during the overnight in the Rutland area of Kelowna…
The incident began when the delivery driver left his vehicle unattended at an address on Keithley Road just before 2:30 AM this morning.
While the delivery driver was attending the address, he suddenly heard his BMW take off down the street. The victim then gave chase after his own vehicle on foot and got into the back seat. Once inside, he managed to overtake the vehicle from an intoxicated teenager who took it, forced it in park and pushed the teen out the door. The teen was then physically detained by the victim.
Police arrived on scene and arrested the 16 year-old male without incident. The Kelowna teen was held in police custody overnight and faces potential criminal and BC Motor Vehicle Act charges. He was later released on strict conditions into the care and custody of a guardian. He is expected to appear in Court on April 24, 2018.
Police ask the public to be wary about stepping in to fight back in situations like this as it could end in disaster. Luckily no one was injured during the incident and the stolen car was not damaged.
