PRINCE GEORGE, BC: The RCMP is reminding locals to not keep Christmas gifts and other personal items in their vehicle following a theft downtown Thursday evening… 

Police say at approximately 6 PM, a male was observed stealing a backpack and several electronic devices from a vehicle on 4th Ave near Ontario Street.

Police arrested the suspect as he attempted to flee the area on a bike. The suspect was identified as Kurt STEINHAUSER, a 35 year-old Prince George resident. 

STEINHAUSER is well known to police. At the time of his arrest, STEINHAUSER was bound by an Undertaking while awaiting trial on charges of Theft, Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose from an incident that occurred in September as well as two probation orders for previous convictions of theft and trafficking in stolen goods.

STEINHAUSER was held in custody and made his court appearance today. He has been charged with Theft and Possession of Stolen Property.

Police are again reminding locals to prevent theft by not leaving any items in sight in a vehicle. If you’re Christmas shopping place gifts in the trunk of a car or take them home to prevent theives from scooping out your vehicle. 

Police also urge the public to continue to report any criminal or suspcious activity they observe in their community.
