Updated: No change in highway closures across Central BC…

There hasn’t been much changes in the highway closures due to the wildfires in the Cariboo. Below is an update as of 1:45 PM July 9…

PRINCE GEORGE, BC: There has been no change in the highway closure status, motorists will have to use alternate routes to get to the southern half of BC… 

  • Please check DriveBC.ca throughout the day for the latest changes.

Motorists will have to use Highway 16 East from Prince George to Tete Jaune Cache/ Highway 5 and on to Kamloops as Highway 97 remains closed in the southbound lanes only. Northbound lanes of Hwy 97 are open so motorists can head north to Prince George if need be.  

Below are the latest details on those highway closures beginning with Highway 97 south of Quesnel… 

Highway 97 Southbound
 (UPDATED) Northbound lanes are OPEN.

Southbound Closed from Quesnel to 15 km south of Quesnel (15 km) because of Forest Fire. Detour available visa Hwy 97 to Prince George on Hwy 16 to Tetejaune Cache then Hwy 5 to Kamloops. Next update 12:00pm. Updated on Sat Jul 8 at 8:15 am PDT. (ID# 249646)

Highway 1 Both directions
    Closed in both directions 10 km west of Cache Creek to 5 km east of Cache Creek (15 km) because of Forest Fire. Alternate route via Hwy 99 to Hwy 12 to Lytton. Highway 97 Both directions
    Closed in both directions from Junction with Highway 1, at Cache Creek to Clinton (38.8 km) because of Forest Fire. Alternate route via Hwy 99 to Hwy 12 to Lytton. Please note that PJXM is only covering the highway closures associated with these wildfires, except the Quesnel area fire, as we prepare to run coverage on fires within Prince George and Quesnel regions.

At this time there has been no updates on the fire burning in the Alexandria First Nations area that has closed Highway 97 south of Quesnel. If more info is released PJXM will update as soon as possible.
