QUESNEL, BC: The Quesnel RCMP is reminding motorists to drive to road conditions following a single vehicle crash late Tuesday morning…
Officers responded to the incident near the Cottonwood River Bridge on the Quesnel-Hixon road and upon arrival, spotted two men stranded on the ice in the middle of the Cottonwood River.
Police learned the vehicle went off road, down a 50 foot embankment and launched across the ice. The vehicle got stuck on the opposite side of the Cottonwood River stranding the injured occupants.
Fearing the vehicle occupants would fall into the fast moving river, officers donned their life jackets and deployed rescue rope bags to reach the stranded men.
After several tense minutes, both men were rescued from the ice.
Both men were transported by BC Ambulance to GR Baker Hospital for treatment. The two experienced trauma from the collision and the airbag deployment but are expected to make a full recovery.
In these ever-changing road conditions of compact snow to ice to slush, police remind drivers to slow down and drive to the current road conditions.
