Search Ended: Two men missing in Salmon River…

UPDATE 2: The search has been officially called off and the men are reported as missing. 

Update: The search has been called off for today. Crews will be back on Wednesday to look for the two men.

Prince George, BC: The Prince George Search and Rescue along with the RCMP are continuing to search for two men who on the Salmon River, north of Prince George on Monday…

Police say during the late afternoon, officers were called to the Salmon River for a report of snowmobilers that had gone into the river.

Once on scene, officers learned that a group of snowmobilers were on the river when one man fell through. Two other men jumped in to rescue him but only one managed to get out of the water. 

Emergency Management BC was contacted and Prince George Search & Rescue was called out along with a helicopter.

The helicopter assisted until nightfall, while trained ground searchers checked the shores and the ice until midnight. 

The two have not yet been located. Ground and air search will resume this morning.

The missing men are Prince George area residents, age 36 and 31.

With our unusually warm winter, ice is not safe to be on. Police and Prince George Search and Rescue urge all persons to stay off the ice in our area.
