Alaska Highway crash claims one life…

Dawson Creek, BC: A serious crash has closed the Alaska Highway this morning… 

Police say the crash occurred near the 228 road, north of Dawson Creek  at 4:30 AM. 

The crash involved a tractor trailer unit and a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup died as a result of the crash. The driver of the tractor trailer unit has been treated at scene with minor injuries. 

Identity of the deceased has not been confirmed at this time. Cause of the collision has not yet been determined.

The Dawson Creek RCMP and South Peace Traffic Services and BC Coroner Service are conducting on scene investigation at this time.

The Alaska Highway has been closed to traffic in both directions while the investigation continues.

There are no alternate routes established around the collision scene at the time of this writing. DriveBC.ca is stating a detour but it is backed up due to a spun out vehicle. 

Further updates will be provided as more information is gathered. Highway might be closed until at least 2 pm MST according to DriveBC.ca.
