Grande Prairie, AB: The Grande Prairie RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying suspects in relation to two armed robberies over the weekend…
On Friday, January 15 at approximately 7 PM, RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at the Macs Convenience Store on Resources Road. The caller reported that an unknown male jumped over the counter and demanded that the clerk open the till.
The clerk was unable to unlock the till to open it and the suspect jumped back over the counter and pushed the cash register to the floor before exiting the store. He departed on foot and was last seen heading toward Poplar Drive.
Although no weapon was observed, the suspect gestured to his pockets in a threatening manner throughout the incident giving the impression a weapon was inside.
The suspect is described as:
• Caucasian male
• 6′ tall
• Brown hair
• Brown eyes
• Wearing a dark blue winter jacket
• Dark coloured sweats
• Work boots
• Light coloured gloves
• Light coloured balaclava over his face
Police arrived on scene moments after the call was received and searched the area with the assistance of Police Dog Services.
Unfortunately, the suspect was not located.
On Saturday, January 16, 2016 at approximately 12:51 PM, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Liquor Barn on the South/East side of Grande Prairie.
A lone male suspect entered the location with his hooded sweater cinched tight around his face to conceal his identity. The suspect walked behind the cashier desk, brandished a knife and demanded money.
The employee opened the cash register and put an undisclosed amount of money into a bag. The suspect then grabbed the bag of money and departed the store.
The suspect was last seen heading southbound in a black 4-door car.
• Native male
• 5’6″ tall
• Heavier set
• Wearing bulky blue hooded sweater, with the hood cinched tight
• Black baggy pants, which were worn low around the waist
• Dark gloves
Nobody was injured during these incidents.
Both robberies remain under investigation. At this time police cannot confirm whether or not the incidents are related.
