Prince George, BC: Thursday marked the first ever Prince George Law Enforcement Torch Run to support Special Olympics British Columbia. By all accounts the event was very successful…

The 3.5 kilometer walk or run event began and ended at the Prince George Detachment Thursday afternoon. This fun event raised funds and awareness for Special Olympic athletes in our province. The participants were made up of officers, office staff & volunteers from various enforcement agencies in our community, as well as local Special Olympic athletes, coaches, friends and family.

Following the run, the RCMP hosted a public bar-b-que, social gathering and raffle in the front garden area of the local Detachment. Over $6000 was raised for Special Olympics BC as a result of this event. In addition, more than 150 people participated or attended the post event celebration.

The Detachment has committed to planning and hosting this event again next year with the hopes of adding to these numbers.

“The Prince George Detachment are really honoured and fortunate to host our first Law Enforcement Torch Run” says Supt. Warren Brown, Officer in Charge of the Prince George RCMP. “Numerous law enforcement agencies and RCMP Detachments have been doing this for many years, and now that we have been a part of this event and experienced the overwhelming community support and appreciation of the athletes, I look forward to continuing this event for years to come.”

A heartfelt thank you to all those that made this event so successful.  The detachment hopes to see you again next year.

The Prince George RCMP are awe inspired by the generosity of local businesses that supported this event through donations. Without their support, this event would not have been nearly as successful. Sponsors were:
