Update: Vance Hartley has been found alive and well. Mr. Hartley walked out of the bush near Cottonwood on Highway 26 this evening at approximately 8:00 p.m.
The RCMP would like to thank all of the volunteers who assisted in the search for Mr. Hartley as well as members of the community who provided information to assist in the search.
Hunters and hikers are reminded to leave directions and/or information regarding where they intend to travel and an expected time of return. As well, plan for all eventualities, by ensuring that proper clothing and extra food and water are carried in case of an an unexpected delay.

On Wednesday, Vance Hartley was apparently hunting in the Swift River Road area, off the Barkerville Highway, near Quesnel. Hartley went off hunting alone at around 5 pm and has not returned.
Mr. Hartley is described as:
- 45 years-old
- 6’4″ tall
- 375 lbs.
- Driving a Blue 2005 Dodge Ram Crew Cab with BC License plate of HP-2691
